Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)
The Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) qualifies pilots to serve as captain on commercial air transport aircraft. Requirements are set by each aviation authority and typically include substantial flight experience (often around 1,500 hours), successful completion of ATPL theory exams, and meeting medical and training standards. Many pilots earn ATPL frozen exams during CPL training before accumulating the full flight-hour requirement.
