Instrument Rating (IR)
An Instrument Rating (IR) is an additional qualification that allows a pilot to fly in instrument meteorological conditions using cockpit instruments and air traffic control guidance. Training includes additional ground school, flight training under simulated or actual IMC, and regulator exams. Competency-based instrument rating (CB-IR) paths exist in some regions.
